Inner space can feel like a void, but physically it is densely packed. Medicalized diagnostic imaging technologies such as x-ray, ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI provide access to corporeal images and data previously unintelligible to human perception. This data is often presented as a glimpse into objective reality. But even seeing a true image of one’s own organs, does one see oneself? Following the imperatives of marketing and advertising, where does one look to find oneself? How do the surreal, uncanny, and mythical evolve when we imagine ourselves living in the paradigm of the scientific?
